Dan Carlin, Vikings, and me (and C.J.!)
On our podcast we recently chatted with Dan Carlin of Hardcore History
Well, this one was a “check it off the bucket list” type of life event. Like many of you, I have been listening to Dan Carlin’s podcasts Hardcore History and Hardcore History Addendum for years. He’s my listen while I’m running buddy, listen while I’m cooking buddy, listen while I’m driving buddy, and I’ve even used his podcasts for assignments in the college History courses I teach.
His podcasts are arguably the longest running (he started in 2005) and most well-known in the U.S., at least where the subject of History is concerned. And for good reason. As you’ll see in our Vikingology episode, I liken him to a Viking Age skald…..a master poet and storyteller.
We covered some fun ground about the Vikings on the heels of his recent episode Twilight of the Æsir, which covered Viking History in five hours, and that’s only for part one! Can’t wait for part two to drop.
We also talked about History in general and things like whether we should judge people of the past by modern standards, a subject I have thought about a lot and will write a post about at some point. It’s important stuff which requires deep thought and a bit of humility. Luckily, Dan was up for the task.
Thanks Dan for everything! It was a blast.
While you’re here, check Dan out on his new Substack as well.
Hope you enjoy the ride!
Skál,
Terri
