Last week my podcast cohost C.J. and I had a really delightful chat with Octavia Randolph. She is an American author who writes historical fiction set in the Viking Age who has adopted the tiny Swedish island of Gotland as her new home. It is an incredibly important place in the middle of the Baltic Sea where Vikings traversed often. The evidence is in the many hundreds of silver hoards — more than any other place in Scandinavia — and painted standing stones.
